Opioid Overdose Response

EzerGuard-OD

Explore our vision for to deliver the opioid overdose antidote- naloxone during a drug overdose.

Discover our plan to provide naloxone in cases of opioid overdose.

The Crisis

Narcotic Overdose: A National Emergency

Narcotic overdose deaths in the US surpasses deaths due to auto accidents and firearms.

In the US, there were over 81,000 deaths due opioid overdose in 2023 (CDC statistics) 69-75% of drug overdose death occurred in situations where the drug user was alone.

New highly potent synthetic opioids such as fentanyl are being found in street drugs.

Naloxone rapidly reverses the effects of all opioids and is available without a prescription in all 50 States.

The Critical Gap

The naloxone nasal spray system requires conscious self-administration or delivery by a bystander.

The EzerGuard-OD system has operational modes and can interact with a cell phone app.

How It Works

Intelligent Escalation Protocol

STEP 1

Device Activation

The drug user places the EzerGuard-OD device on the forearm and turns it on prior to drug use.

Audio instructions are given. Drug user choses mode of operation.

STEP 2

Audio Alarm Monitoring

Audio alarm sounds every 90 seconds.

If user is conscious- presses respond button. Device reset for audio alarm every 90 seconds.

STEP 3

Mild Electrical Stimulation

If user does not respond to audio alarm a mild electric shock is given. If after the shock the presses respond, the device is reset to audio alarms. If there is not a response in 30 seconds a more intense electric shock is given.

STEP 4

First Naloxone Dose

If the user does not respond to the second more intense shock in 30 seconds, the first naloxone is given.

STEP 5

Sustained Stimulation

The device delivers an electric shock every 45 seconds to stimulate spontaneous respiration until naloxone has taken effect (4 min). The device can be turned off by the user if consciousness is regained.

STEP 6

Second Dose If Needed

If after 4 minutes the user is still unresponsive, a second dose of naloxone is administered and electric shocks is applied every 40 seconds.
